University of Pisa
The unit will focus on the construction of the trade data, in cooperation with UNISI, continuing a collaboration between the principal investigator and Michelangelo Vasta (Federico et al 2012, Federico and Vasta 2010, 2015).
Furthermore, the unit will also cooperate with SSSA on the construction of the data on real-wages. Giovanni Federico has developed a major experience concerning original sources on prices of agricultural products and related topics (Federico 2007). UNIPI will also work on the construction of new estimates of land endowments, in collaboration with Paolo Martinelli (Universidad Carlos III, Madrid).
University of Siena
The unit will work at the construction of the patent data-set. This research will follow, by and large, the approach outlined in Nuvolari and Vasta (2015).
Maria Alessandra Rossi will contribute to the analysis of the patent data for the most recent period. The unit will also work at the construction of the human capital data-sets. In this task, the unit will take advantage of the participation of Emanuele Felice (UNICH).
Felice has already worked on this topic and, in particular, in the context of the North-South gap (Felice and Vasta 2015). Moreover, the unit will take advantage by the collaboration with Gabriele Cappelli (Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona) who has recently published some articles on human capital in Italy (Cappelli 2016). The unit will cooperate with UNIPI at the construction of the trade-data. Giovanni Federico and Michelangelo Vasta have already worked together on this type of data (Federico and Vasta 2010). The unit will also cooperate with SSSA at the construction of the wages data.
Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies
The unit will work at the construction of the wage data-set and will also contribute to the construction of the estimates of capital and labor endowments, and of revised productivity estimates (disaggregated by sector and geographically).
In this task, the unit will take advantage of the participation to the project of Carlo Ciccarelli (University of Tor Vergata, Rome), who has already worked both at the construction of estimates of industrial production (Ciccarelli and Fenoaltea 2013) and to estimates of labour stocks (Ciccarelli and Missiaia 2013).
The unit will also contribute to the construction of the patent data-set in cooperation with UNISI. Alessandro Nuvolari has developed a considerable experience with historical patent data both in the UK and in the Italian context (Nuvolari and Tartari 2011, Nuvolari and Vasta 2015, 2017, 2018).
Catholic University of Milan
The unit will work at the construction and implementation of the HOABM.
For this purpose, the unit will recruit a two years post-doctoral researcher specialized in computational economics. It is expected a collaboration with Marcelo Pereira (University of Campinas) for the development phase of the model.
